I am from Adel, Iowa, a graduate of Boston College, and so excited to be back in Iowa for law school. I have always had a passion for environmentalism, and I am thrilled to be joining the Iowa Environmental Council as a law clerk for the summer of 2023.

Iowa’s natural landscape is incredible, and I am fortunate to have the opportunity to work to protect it. I am a rising second-year student at the University of Iowa College of Law, set to graduate in May 2025. At the College of Law, I am a Representative for the Iowa Student Bar Association and the Secretary for the Environmental Law Society. Outside the classroom, I enjoy biking Iowa’s trails and playing pickleball.

This summer, I look forward to exploring the field of environmental law by engaging with a variety of different perspectives. IEC’s work is critical to protecting Iowa’s environment because they work closely with all relevant parties to ensure a coalition has been built. I am delighted to help further IEC’s mission of protecting Iowa’s environment and humbled to see such committed advocacy every day. This advocacy is inspiring and this summer’s impact will influence me for the rest of my career, where I hope to support a healthy environment for future generations to enjoy.

I am a lifelong Iowan, just finishing up my first year of law school at the Iowa College of Law. I made a transition later in life to law after working a number of years as a chemistry teacher and professor. I am excited about the opportunity to work at the Iowa Environmental Council this summer and help Iowans with such important issues as clean water and efficient energy. I am learning so much about how government agencies, utilities and other businesses, and IEC and other organizations all work together to find the best solutions for the environmental issues we face. After law school I will continue to live, work, and contribute here in service to the people and communities of Iowa.

Hello! My name is Eva Hoch, and I am serving as a Communications Intern with the Iowa Environmental Council this summer. I just finished my sophomore year at Central College in Pella, IA, where I am planning to double major in Political Science and English with a minor in French. I am also a part of Central’s Cross Country and Track and Field teams.

After my time at Central, I hope to continue my education at a law school. Right now, I have lots of different ideas of what exactly I would like to do in the future, one of those being to work for a non-profit organization. This summer with the IEC will be a good opportunity to get a glimpse of what working at a non-profit organization is like.

My role so far has been to assist with tasks such as updating the IEC website, working on social media graphics for various events, and helping put together emails. I’m excited to see what the rest of my summer with the IEC holds!
