Taking action in Iowa this Earth Day

Happy Earth Month, IEC friends! While Earth Day officially takes place on Monday, April 22, many organizations, communities, and groups recognize and celebrate all things Earth and the environment throughout the month. 

Iowans have many ways to get involved and give back, whether you want to pick up trash, improve native landscapes, participate in citizen science, get in a workout, or even just do a little shopping!

Once again this year, IEC has gathered a number of resources and ideas that you can do here in Iowa. You can also visit the EPA's Earth Day page for ideas and information.

Host Your Own Event

• Organize your own river clean up with American Rivers 
• Adopt a Stream with Metro Waste Authority 
• Sign up for Adopt-A-Highway litter removal with Iowa DOT 

Things You Can Do At Home

• Turn down your water heater just a few degrees for energy and financial savings
• Conduct a home water audit
• Replace a gas appliance with one that uses electricity instead
• Learn about rebates available through the IRA and BIA at iafederalfunding.org 
• Conduct a home energy audit
• Help our pollinator friends by making a simple bee bath or creating a pollinator friendly garden this spring
