Position Summary
The Iowa Environmental Council (IEC) seeks to hire a Communications Intern for Summer 2022. The Communications Intern will assist the communications team with research, planning, and execution of communications-related tactics.
Position Details
The Communications Intern will assist IEC staff with all aspects of organizational communication. This may include emails and web postings; educational event coordination and promotion; writing for various electronic sources including blogs, press releases, and social media; developing program publications such as white papers or fact sheets; media research; design; and other communications-related duties.
Primary Duties
-Assisting with preparation of monthly and weekly newsletters
-Coordinating the design and digital publication of white papers and fact sheets
-Updating IEC web pages
-Assistance with promoting IEC fundraising events
-Drafting and designing social media posts
-Taking photos for use in social media and newsletters
-Designing graphics for communication materials using Canva or similar design program
-Staffing an IEC exhibit table at events
-Write blog content and coordinate with potential guest authors
Qualifications and desirable qualities
-At least two years of coursework towards a Bachelor’s Degree in communications, public relations, journalism, graphic design, or related field
-Excellent communications and writing skills
-Graphic design skills or interest
-Understanding of how to use Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to promote messaging
-Self-motivation and flexibility
-Ability to multi-task and manage short-term and long-term deadlines
-Ability to work primarily in a remote setting
-Ability to travel to events
-Ability to organize workload and work independently in a multi-project environment
-Ability to conduct oneself in a professional manner
-Commitment to and enthusiasm for protecting Iowa’s environment
