Where: Gather at 18320 Talbot Rd. (Ruth Luis’ home). Park in the loop driveway.
Mt. Talbot State Preserve is located on the north edge of Stone State Park off Talbot Road. This preserve is an excellent example of a high-quality Loess Hills native prairie. Foot traffic/hiking is allowed, although there are no established trails.
Mount Talbot was dedicated as a biological state preserve in 1989.
At 6:00 pm the group will walk 5-10 minutes along a gravel road to Mt. Talbot
Why: To learn about prairies and share some prairie fellowship!
Event amenities: Water, iced tea and cookies/snacks will be enjoyed around a firepit after the walk (weather permitting). Outdoor decks and yard furniture for those who want to stay outside with refreshments. Bathrooms and indoor A/C for hot, tired hikers.
This hike is co-sponsored by the Iowa Prairie Network, Woodbury County Conservation Board and Loess Hills Wild Ones.
This event is free and open to the public.
