Feed Iowa First’s Equitable Land Access program connects landless farmers with land, seeds, irrigation and farming equipment. This support reduces their start-up costs to zero. Feed Iowa First also provides emerging farmers with education, business planning support and community-building opportunities. Wanatee Farm, in Marion, is Feed Iowa’s First newest initiative through the ELA program. The 11-acre farm hosts seven vegetable farmers: Daniel Batige, Mari Hunt Wassink, Siriro Hakizimana, Akola Parou, Guy Ngoma, Kisonia Mufuta and Patience Dahn. Using farming methods most familiar to them, these farmers grow culturally relevant crops like sorel, eggplant and potatoes.

Join us to hear these farmers’ stories, learn about their crops and markets and connect with others interested in land and food access solution in Iowa. Stay after the field day for a workshop at nearby Linn County Public Health Building, where you’ll learn how to consolidate your records for tax purposes.
