Join Whiterock Conservancy on September 28, 2019, for K-60: Celebrating the 60th anniversary of Khrushchev’s visit to Garst Farms.
Commemorate: Keynote Speaker Timothy Naftali, CNN Presidential Historian and co-author of the award-winning, “Khrushchev’s Cold War”, will review the Soviet Premier’s historic 1959 trip to the United States — highlighting the significance of his visit to the Roswell and Elizabeth Garst farm.
Dedicate: Whiterock will dedicate a replica of Salavat Scherbakov’s 1957 sculpture “Let Us Beat Swords into Ploughshares”, based on the famous original located at United Nations Headquarters in New York City.
Celebrate: Recent renovations to the historic Garst Farmhouse earned it the “Best Rural Preservation Project” from Preservation Iowa. House and grounds tours will celebrate its history and preservation work. A Whiterock sustainable agricultural tour is also scheduled.
