Raccoon River Water Day at Whiterock Conservancy

Des Moines Water Works is partnering with Whiterock Conservancy for Raccoon River Water Day on Saturday, August 3, to celebrate the Raccoon River as a vital resource for our state.  Join Des Moines Water Works and Whiterock Conservancy from 1-4pm at the River Campground at 1314 Fig Avenue, Coon Rapids, Iowa.

Volunteers will educate guests about where the water from the river goes, and how important it is to keep it clean!

Other activities include:

  • 9:00 am Trail Run 
    • Run along the river or cheer on the runners from the banks during the one of the newest runs in the Iowa Trail Run Series. 5K, 10K and half-marathon races on this fun and hilly landscape. Register at iowatrailruns.com

  • 10:00 am Free Canoe and Kayak Floats 
    • Get on the Middle Raccoon River and help with a river clean up during your free canoe or kayak float. Preregistration required at (712) 790-8221 x1.

  • 11:00 am-3:00 pm Water Rocks Conservation Station
    • Visit the Water Rocks Conservation Station staffed by the Iowa Learning Farms to learn about soil, water quality, wetlands and see the rainfall simulator demonstrating the effects of rainfall on undisturbed soils with a variety of soil covers and impervious and porous surfaces.

Free t-shirts will be provided for the first 50 people checking in at Whiterock.
