Air Quality in Siouxland: Expert Panel Presentation

IEC is hosting an expert panel presentation to share data about Sioux City air pollution levels and information about the health effects of air pollution.

This presentation will feature findings from the new report "Air Quality in Siouxland: How Grassroots Action Exposed the Truth About Pollution." Dr. Glenn Hurst, an Iowa physician, and Steve Guyer, Senior Energy Policy Counsel at the Iowa Environmental Council, will share information about Sioux City’s air quality and the effects of air pollution on health. Plus, we'll share actionable ways you can get involved in protecting Iowa’s air and health.

Attendance is free and open to the public. Registration is not required.

Woodbury County had the highest rates of asthma in the state in 2024 and 2025. For residents with asthma and other risk factors, access to real-time air monitoring data is crucial. However, this data was not publicly accessible. Community members, with the assistance of the Iowa Environmental Council, installed six PurpleAir™ monitors across Greater Sioux City. This localized network fills a critical data gap by providing continuous, real-time measurements of ambient concentrations of dangerous air pollutants.
