Art of Water

Over the next two days, the Iowa Water Center, a Council member, will host its tenth annual Iowa Water Conference. In celebration of the event, the Iowa Water Center has partnered with several organizations, including the Council, to present Art of Water 2016: Using the arts to tell Iowa’s water story.

Doors open at 6 p.m. for a pre-performance gallery session featuring students form Ames High School Bluestem Institute. Featured artwork explores how we define water quality terms from a technical, cultural, and social perspective.  Students will be present to describe their posters, the process, and lessons learned.

The gallery session will be followed by a 7 p.m. performance of Body of Water, a production that uses video, music, and dance to tell the intimate story of water usage and quality within our watershed communities. Body of Water was first presented in the spring of 2015 in Decorah to multiple sold out audiences. The free community event will be hosted at C.Y. Stephens Auditorium in Ames, Iowa on March 23, 2016, from 6-8:30 p.m., following the first day. Visit the Iowa Water Center's website for additional information.

This event is presented at no cost to attendees through generous sponsorships from the following: Iowa Water Center, Leopold Center for Sustainable Agriculture Competitive Education Support Program, Iowa State University Department of Agronomy, Dennis & Betty Keeney, Luther College (in-kind), Peoples Company, and the Iowa Environmental Council.
