Iowans to Urge Action on Conservation, Clean Energy

March 18, 2016 (DES MOINES) – Diverse individuals and organizations from across Iowa will assemble at Iowa State Capitol next Tuesday, March 22 for Environmental Lobby Day and REAP Day at the Capitol 2016.

The event, which is hosted by the Iowa Environmental Council, Iowa REAP Alliance and Iowa’s Water, Land and Legacy Coalition, will focus on advocating sustainable funding, programs and policies that support clean water, healthy land and continued clean energy leadership.

Legislation participants will call upon the state’s leaders to take action on include fully funding Iowa’s Resource Enhancement and Protection (REAP) program at $20 million, funding the Natural Resources and Outdoor Recreation Trust Fund, supporting critical conservation programs and expanding clean energy tax incentives, among others.

“There is a broad base of support for programs and policies that conserve our natural resources and accelerate Iowa’s transition to clean energy. The diverse 30+ organizations and individual Iowans that plan to participate next Tuesday is evidence of that,” said Iowa Environmental Council Executive Director Ralph Rosenberg. “These individuals and organizations care deeply about these issues, enough so that they’re willing to devote a day to come to the Capitol to convey their support and share their concerns. Legislators have an opportunity this session to protect Iowa’s natural resources, strengthen our economy, protect public health and improve Iowans’ quality of life. We urge them to take meaningful action.”
