Guest post by Monte Marti, IEC Board President
It is with great excitement to welcome you to 2020 and the year in which we are celebrating the
Iowa Environmental Council’s 25th anniversary of advocating for Iowa’s many bountiful natural resources and our environment.
I am grateful for all that you have done over the many years and continue to do to help support IEC’s efforts and am honored to serve as President of the Council’s Board of Directors. It is because of these collective efforts and commitment of many, IEC today stands ready to take on the many challenges facing our State including improving water quality, conserving our land, growing our use of solar and wind energy, and overall advancing the conversation of how to balance the necessary use of our resources while leaving a legacy for others who follow to benefit from.
To mark this momentous occasion, IEC has plans for a number of events this year to celebrate and acknowledge the people and their work who have gotten us to where we are today and to those who are leading us into the next 25 years.
First of all, you may have noticed the biggest change as IEC turns 25: our new logo! The new mark uses timeless symbols to illustrate all parts of our environment – land, water, and sun – to marry the important work of our organization. We are thrilled to introduce this clean new look to you as IEC begins its next chapter.
In addition to the new logo, IEC is rolling out an enhanced and expanded membership program that expands our membership levels and provides exciting new members-only opportunities. Watch for more information on these changes later this month.
Finally, we’re officially inviting you to celebrate 25 years with us at our anniversary celebration. Please mark your calendars to join us on February 27 at the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden for entertainment, great food and drink, reflection on our past success, and a toast to the future. Tickets are available today and we hope that you will be able to join us!
You are an important part of IEC’s past and our future. When IEC is at the capitol, when IEC is in meetings with state agencies or other critical partners, when IEC connects with local business leaders or residents, it is with your needs, interests, and goals for our environment in mind. Together we can help keep Iowa a beautiful place to live, work, and play for everyone who calls our state home.
Thank you for all you do. Words alone cannot begin to express my gratitude to you and appreciation for all of your support to help make IEC what it is today. Cheers to you and IEC’s next 25 years!
