Iowa Utilities Commission Approves Settlement for 1,000 MW of New Wind in Iowa

The Iowa Utilities Commission approved a settlement between Interstate Power Light Company and stakeholder parties, including the Environmental Law & Policy Center, Iowa Environmental Council, and Sierra Club, to authorize up to 1,000 megawatts of new wind energy in Iowa. The new wind power is expected to produce enough energy to power more than 350,000 homes.

The Iowa Utilities Commission approved a settlement between MidAmerican Energy and stakeholder parties, including Environmental Law & Policy Center, Iowa Environmental Council, and Sierra Club, to authorize 800 megawatts of solar in Iowa. This is the largest solar approval in state history and would quintuple MidAmerican's existing solar resources.

The Pacific Legal Foundation and its plaintiff who lost its case in a federal district court in Iowa did not appeal to the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals to continue their misguided attempt to eliminate voluntary wetlands protections that are part of the longstanding "Swampbuster" provisions of the U.S. Farm Bill.?The plaintiff had a July 28 deadline to file an appeal.
